Just a bit north of Phoenix, this area has miles of designated trails across various terrains and skill levels. Now is the time to start heading over there, since the desert heat is calming down!
The trails here are open to pretty much all vehicles, and you can camp anywhere for free. Bring your ATVs, UTVs, Motorcycles, Dirt Bikes, and Dune Buggies.
Mammoth Lakes, CA
This California destination is the way to go for breathtaking scenery. Against the backdrop of snow capped mountains, golden aspen trees glow and surround crystal clear lakes.
You can see nature’s beauty from every angle on nice easy trails fit for the whole family, plus free camping. Nearly all vehicles are permitted but you’ll need a permit to ride. Local hot springs offer a nice option after a long day out!
Hidden Falls Adventure Park, TX
Fall is the perfect time to head south to the usually scorching hot state of Texas. An hour from Austin, Hidden Falls Adventure Park is enormous. There are options for every possible vehicle and skillset in a huge network of trails.
Each trail is clearly marked for allowed vehicles, so you always know where you can ride. The park is also home to waterfalls, natural springs, and a shooting club open to the public on weekends.
Hatfield McCoy Trail System, WV
Yes, those Hatfields and McCoys. This trail system is actually a collection of 8 trails, all surrounded by West Virginia’s beautiful variety of trees and vegetation.
You’ll find everything you need from river running, to dusty trails and smooth paths. You could spend a week here and still find undiscovered terrain. ATVs, UTVs, Motorcycles, and Dirt Bikes are all allowed.
Brown Mountain OHV Trail System, NC
This pick is for fall aficionados. The trails in this system are primarily for ATVs and Dirt Bikes, but there are a couple open to UTVs. What makes this area worth visiting is some of the best fall colors you’ll ever see.
This area of North Carolina draws thousands of leaf-watchers every year. The trails aren’t a far trip from Asheville, where you can find some good craft brews to end the day.
